I upgraded to the Insta360 X4 in June 2025 to achieve better image quality for my Street View captures. The native 8K resolution has been a game-changer, providing significantly clearer details in every panoramic view. This camera is now my primary workhorse, replacing my trusted X2 units. Despite its more advanced technology, it has proven to be as durable and reliable for long capture days as its predecessors, even in varied environmental conditions.
Battery performance is crucial for my long rides. I currently use two Insta360 X4 batteries. Each battery reliably lasts for approximately 75 minutes of continuous 8K recording, provided the weather conditions are good. This gives me a consistent, predictable workflow for planning my capture routes and swap points.
Insta360 One X2 – Relied on this workhorse for 60% of trips across 300+ hours of recording in various weather conditions. One unit was retired after failing to power on, and another kept capturing despite a cracked screen.
Yi 360VR – Had connection issues with phone and GPS, making it impractical. Used for only one trip.
GoPro Fusion – Bulky and heavy, but delivered good video quality.
Ricoh Theta – Suffered from a red dot issue due to sun exposure. The non-replaceable battery made it inconvenient for long trips.
Powered by a Bosch Performance CX motor, my bike has covered over 18,000 km and is still going strong. Equipped with a backpack hanger to carry extra batteries and gear, it also allows me to securely attach a monopod for 360° capture. This setup enables long recording sessions with minimal effort—covering 50 km feels effortless, even for those who aren’t super fit. It’s been an essential part of making extended Street View trips possible! 🚴♂️
